My family moved
(1964) so I left
the band and entered a new high school. I made new musician friends in my new
school and started
a new band in 1965 called "Just Us". The original Just Us band was comprised of (from left to
right) Danny Chavez on drums and vocals, Mike Cain on bass and vocals, Nick Quarte
on guitar and vocals, Phil Leanio on saxophone and vocals and myself on keyboards and
vocals. The Go-Go Dancers are Phyllis Rapp and Donna Burke. We played a
lot of Young Rascals tunes. This band
also played many high school functions and a few wedding receptions and
benefits. One of our biggest crowning achievements was playing in the Cow Palace
for the H. Leibes Band Bash (battle of the bands) we didn't win but we were
among the finalists. Shortly thereafter Danny Chavez, Phil Leanio and Nick
Quarte left the band, so Mike and I hired Ernie Enochson on drums, Ross Winetsky
on lead guitar and vocals, Mike Williams on rhythm guitar and vocals and Vick
Linn Gargano as the lead singer. We played many popular tunes as well as many
original tunes mostly composed by Ross. Vick the singer had the "Mick Jagger"
thing going for himself.
